Cacao is scientifically known as Theobroma cacao, from the Greek ‘Theos‘ which means ‘God’ and from the Greek ‘broma‘ that means ‘food’. The first Cacao trees grew naturally in the rainforests of   the Amazon River about 4000 years ago. Cacao trees come in three varieties: the Criollo, Trinitario and Forastero. Grown mainly in Central and South America, the Criollo represents only 1% of world production. Some exceptionally rare Criollo is harvested only by dugout canoe deep in the Amazon rainforest. Dragon Superfoods Cacao Beans are obtained after the fermentation and sun exposure drying.
