Eating the Rainbow is a fundamental healthy eating tip. And no, we don’t mean artificially colored foods like Skittles or M&Ms 🙂 But what does it mean? Why is it important to get a variety of freshly harvested colourful vegetables in your diet? You might be tempted to concentrate on a few foods that you and your family members like and focus on eating those. And it can be easy to fall into routines. But the truth is: Our bodies benefit from variety. For optimal health, we need a rainbow of nutrients and colors.
In fact, the variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals in fruits and vegetables have enormous healing powers. And many of them bring their own distinctive colours. Eating a diversity of colourful foods can be an easy way to get a complete range of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to thrive.
This Box makes Rainbow eating easy. It contains a large selection of all different colored foods. All of them grown on our own farm and freshly picked every day. The box contains about 8.5kg of produce. Here is a list of all colors and foods together with some of their health benefits.

Red & Pink foods: Heirloom Tomatoes, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, Red Capsicums, Heirloom Chioggia Beetroot, Chili Peppers, Red Radishes – Contain Lycopene a powerful antioxidant with many health benefits including sun protection, improved heart health and lower risk of certain types of cancer.
Orange Foods: Orange Carrots, Pumpkins & Squash, Orange Capsicums, Sweet Potatoes – What gives most foods their orange hue is the antioxidant Beta-carotene, which also helps to support healthy skin, hair and vision.
Yellow Foods: Yellow Carrots, Heirloom ‘Yellow Pear’ Cherry Tomatoes, Heirloom Yellow Tomatoes, Yellow courgette, Golden Beetroot, Yellow Capsicums, Chili Peppers – Just like Orange Foods, Yellows get their hue from Carotenoids. They generally also contain a high amount of vitamin C which helps to boost the immune system and is anti-aging and beneficial for bone, joint and dental health.
White Foods: White Sweet Potatoes, White Radish, White Onions, Cauliflower, Fennel, Garlic (imported from France) – While they don’t contain one dominant antioxidant and are therefore often overlooked they contain a wide range of highly beneficial antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Many have anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, supporting immune function.
Green Food: Broccoli, Leafy Greens, Green Capsicums, Cucumbers, Kolrabi, Cabbage, Heirloom Green Tomatoes, Celery, Green Courgettes – Many have potent anti-cancer properties such as antioxidants called insoles
Purple, Blue & Black Foods: Eggplant, Beetroot, Purple Beans, Purple Capsicums, Purple Kohlrabi, Black Capsicums, Purple & Black Tomatoes, Purple Carrots, Purple Cabbage – Contain a powerful antioxidant called Anthocyanins. They protect cells from inflammation and damage, which in turn can protect the body from related conditions such as heart disease and stroke.
