Although Beetroot is now classified as a cold weather vegetable, it can be grown in our climate all year long as it has its origins in the Mediterranean and was spread northwards by the Romans. We use a delicious Italian heirloom variety. Unlike most other root vegetables, the Beetroot’s swollen roots sit on top of the soil and not below. The whole pant can be eaten.
Chioggia Beetroot are an old-fashioned italian heirloom variety with globe-shaped roots and dark green foliage. When sliced, unusual red and white rings are exposed making this vegetable an attractive addition to any salad. It has an excellent sweet flavour, is delicious in salads or it can be boiled, steamed or baked. This is our first trial batch so only available for a limited period.
